Dar es Salaam University College of Education (DUCE) is a public university founded in 2005 by Government Notice No. 202, which was issued on July 22, 2005. The College was established as a priority reaction by the Tanzanian government to the issue of an acute lack of graduate teachers and specialists in the education sector, which had arisen from the fast growth of school enrollment.
The success of the Primary Education Development Programme (PEDP) in 2002-2006 and the Secondary Education Development Programme (SEDP I) in 2004-2009, among other efforts, prompted the expansion.
The College is situated on Plots 324 and 325 Block ‘T’ Chang’ombe in Temeke Municipality, Dar es Salaam Region, close to the new National Stadium and about 5 kilometers from the City Centre through Kilwa Road. The College is spread over 52.97 acres of land. The College also has a 1.17-hectare plot of land on Plot No. 964/1 Block ‘V’ Mbagala. Because of its closeness to the city center, the College’s strategic position offers possibilities in a variety of investment sectors.
