How to Login to MyUNISA: Myunisa Login
Myunisa Login: With more people enrolling in universities, it is important to have efficient systems that can comfortably handle a huge number of students. For this reason, many institutions of higher education are going away from papers and creating online systems to increasing efficiency.
University of South Africa (UNISA) is part of the trend, creating a portal to help students access information. The mylife UNISA account allows students to access exams, newsletters, announcement, assignment marks, and so much more.
All students are required to have the myLife email account since important information is posted on the account. The account is free to open and uses the Microsoft Office 365 platform. When you log in myunisa, you will discover that the account looks like an email account and is easy to understand.
The myUNISA email is essential during your time at the university, therefore, the following steps are very important for you to activate and access the account for a smooth stay at the institution.
How do I make a myLife account? Before you can set up my life UNISA account, you need to have access to your myUNISA Student portal. Here is a straightforward detailed guide to follow when setting up the account.

  • Step 1: Go to the myUNISA student portal.
  • Step 2: Click on ‘Claim UNISA Login.’
  • Step 3: Type in your student number and click ‘Continue.’
  • Step 4: Fill in the personal information form (Surname, Full names, DOB, South African ID No/ Passport No/ Foreign ID. Enter either ID No or Passport No, not both) and click ‘Continue.’
  • Step 5: Read through the terms and check the boxes and then click ‘Acknowledge.’
  • Step 6: You will see a page showing your account details (mylife email address and phone number) and also an initial UNISA password.

The password will be for both myUnisa and myLife email account. Your UNISA email address will be unique for every student, and your UNISA email address will follow the format [email protected]
Accessing myUnisa my life account
To log into myUnisa, go to My UNISA website, and then enter  your student number and the initial password given in step

  1. Click ‘Login.’ Note that the creation of your myLife email account can take an entire day (24 hours) after claiming your Unisa login.

How do I access myLife Unisa? To access your myLife email account, you need to follow the following mylife login steps: Go to login or click on myLife email option on login page.
The page will redirect you to Microsoft outlook.
Enter your UNISA email provided in step 6 and UNISA mylife password. Click ‘Sign in’. Simple! Mylife UNISA login can also happen by clicking on the myLife Email Access on your student portal while logged in.
NOTE: Make sure to log out your myUnisa email account when done especially when accessing through a public computer or device. Activating myunisa password How do I get my Unisa password? At times, 24 hours may have elapsed you have not received your password, or the password sent is not working.
What do you do? You need to get to myUnisa login my admin login to change your password. Here are the necessary steps to follow:

  1. Step 1: Go to myUnisa login. Enter your User name and password and click login.
  2. Step 2: Click on ‘My Admin’.
  3. Step 3: Click on ‘Change Password’.
  4. Step 4: Fill the form provided to update your password. The password will be for both myUnisa and myLife accounts.

Myunisa Login
It may take about half an hour (30 minutes) for new myunisa password to be active on your myLife services during peak seasons. However, if you still cannot log in to your account, send an email to [email protected] and you will be assisted.
How to Complete MyUNISA Application
Application for master’s and doctoral qualifications will be open from 15 September to 6 November 2020. Thereafter, only those qualifications that have spaces available will be open until the end of January 2021 (exceptions may apply). Please note that selection degrees have different application dates.
Please take note of the following:

  • All applications for admission must be submitted online. No self-help stations will be available for applications at the regional offices.
  • Admission to a qualification is not automatic. It will depend on whether you comply with the admission requirements, departmental requirements and if space is available.

Unisa’s application process
Applying for admission to a master’s or doctoral degree comprises three steps:

  1. Apply for a student number (only applicable if you do not already have a formal Unisa student number)
  2. Apply for admission
  3. Upload the compulsory supporting documents. These documents are displayed in red on the upload platform. Incomplete applications will not be considered.

Unisa will accept applicants based on the following criteria: (1) The suitability and viability of the intended research; (2) adequate supervisory capacity and research expertise in the discipline or department; and (3) an approved selection procedure which is in line with Unisa’s Policy on Equality and Diversity.

Who must apply for a Unisa student number?

  • You must apply for a Unisa student number if you have never before studied towards a formal qualification at Unisa. Student numbers issued for Unisa’s short learning programmes are not valid for formal qualifications. Your formal Unisa student number will be your permanent Unisa student number.
  • If you are applying for admission to a Graduate School of Business Leadership (GSBL) qualification, please apply for a Unisa student number, unless you previously studied at Unisa towards a formal qualification.
  • If you are applying for admission to a selection degree, you must apply for a Unisa student number if you have never before studied towards a formal qualification at Unisa. If you do not have a formal Unisa student number and are selected for admission to one of the selection degrees, you will not be able to register for the 2021 academic year.
  • An application for a Unisa student number is NOT an application for admission to a qualification. You must complete the process by applying for admission and uploading the supporting documents.

Pay the application fee
Pay the online application fee of R115,00. Please note that the application fee is non-refundable even if you decide not to study through Unisa or do not qualify for admission to Unisa.
Unisa does not accept cash at any of its offices. You may, however, deposit cash into the university’s First National Bank account.

When may I apply for admission?
Applications for admission to Unisa open on 15 September and close on 6 November 2020 (some exceptions apply). The coursework MCom in Industrial Psychology opens on 17 August and closes on 18 September 2020.

A research outline describes your intended research and comprises a two to five page expression of interest essay describing the following:
    • Topic
    • Short literature review
    • Potential contribution of the study
    • Potential unit of analysis
    • Research context (include the method you plan on using)
    • Personal motivation to pursue studies on this topic
    • List of references (using the Harvard referencing method, the “APA” referencing method or any other referencing methods indicated by the department)
    • CV and any additional documents as indicated in the admission requirements for the specific qualification under the departmental focus area requirements
  • I meet the statutory and college admission requirements for my qualification of choice.
  • I have a valid e-mail address and I accept that Unisa will communicate with me during the application process using this e-mail address.

You must upload all the necessary supporting documents as part of the online application process. E-mailed documents will not be accepted. You will have 10 working days from when you apply to upload your supporting documents. The 10 days do not apply after the closing date for applications.
If you do not upload the necessary supporting documents within 10 working days of submitting your application for admission, your application will be declined. You will then need to re-apply for admission and upload the necessary supporting documents before the closing date for applications should you wish to be considered for admission to the 2021 academic year.

  • Copies of all official academic records, including all papers / modules passed, percentages obtained and the ledger. You do not need to submit Unisa academic records.
  • A copy of your ID or passport.
  • A research outline, CV and any additional documents as indicated in the admission requirements for the specific qualification under the departmental focus area requirements.

How to Make MyUnisa Registration
Unisa’s online registration process is quick, simple and accurate. When registering online, you’ll be prompted when information is missing or incorrect, helping you to ensure that you include all the necessary information when submitting your registration form.
The steps are as follows

  • Go to the Unisa registration website:
  • Choose the qualification level and then click “Go“.
  • Enter your student number in the block provided and the other details as required. (If you don’t have a student number you won’t be able to continue. You’ll need to apply online for admission. During this process, a student number will be generated and communicated to you.)
  • Check your personal details on screen. Change any contact details that are missing or incorrect. It is very important to provide your correct address and cellphone numbers. Incorrect information may delay the delivery of your study material and prevent you from receiving important information from the university.
  • Click on the modules from the drop-down list for which you want to register. Ensure that you meet all the qualification requirements for your selected modules. You must
    • meet all the pre-requisites and co-requisites for the selected module
    • enter the correct module code
    • select the correct semester (1 = first semester; 2 = second semester)

* The language of tuition for each module is indicated in the module information.

  • Do not exceed the prescribed number of modules per semester or year, as this may result in a delay in your registration being processed. Unisa retains the right to remove modules based on the number of credits allowed per semester and in accordance with the fees paid. Please take note of the maximum period of time you have to complete your qualification.
  • Calculate your fees
    • Use the fee quotation link on the Unisa website ( to obtain a quote for the cost of your modules.
    • Note the minimum fee that must be paid before Unisa will process your registration. If these fees are more than you can afford, remove modules until you can afford the fees.
    • You can make payment online, using a credit card at
    • If you don’t have a credit card, you can pay at a First National Bank branch. Retain your proof of payment in case of enquiries.
  • Submit your registration.

Study pack delivery options
At the point of registration, you will have two delivery options to choose from for your first study pack for the semester, should you wish to receive study material:

  1. Courier

Please provide Unisa with the following:

  • a valid and active cellphone number
  • an alternative and valid contact number (in case we can’t get hold of you via your cellphone number)
  • a valid and correct courier / physical delivery address

In an effort to ensure that study material packs are delivered on time to the right student, Unisa requires the student (or a designated person) to present proof of identity and provide a contact number to the courier company.
This information, together with the recipient’s signature, will be captured on the courier delivery form to ensure that study material packs are delivered timeously and to the correct student.

  1. Post Office

Provide Unisa with a correct address, suburb and postal code, and a valid and active cellphone number. It is very important that you collect your study material from the Post Office as soon as you receive the notification SMS. It is your responsibility to collect your study material.
What should I do if I don’t receive the notification SMS?

  • If you don’t receive the notification SMS within 10 days of your registration being finalised, please enquire at your local Post Office.
  • If your study pack is not available at your local Post Office, please contact Unisa’s Despatch Division urgently

Please note:

  • This delivery option only applies to your first study pack. Subsequent material will be sent via ordinary mail service from the South African Post Office. Once you have registered, you must register on myUnisa. This will enable you to access your study material online.
  • Study material for second semester modules will only be sent to you at the start of the second semester. Second semester study material will also only be available on myUnisa at the start of the second semester.
  • All communication sent to you after the initial study package (with the exception of study guides) will be sent electronically to your myLife e-mail account (eg follow-up tutorial letters, examination timetables and results, financial statements). You will no longer receive such communication in printed format.
  • If you do not collect your study material without a valid reason, you may be charged return costs.
  • You are encouraged to access your study material online.

How Accessing your myLife e-mail account
Due to a recent Microsoft update, you will no longer be able to directly access your myLife e-mail account when logged in to myUnisa.
New procedure to access your myLife e-mail account
To access your myLife e-mail account, please follow these steps:

  1. Go to the

  3. Select “Sign in”.

What to do if your password is not active on myLife / O365?
It may be necessary to reset your myUnisa password to synchronise it with your myLife mailbox.

  • Login to myUnisa and click on “My Admin”.
  • Click on the “Change Password” link.
  • Complete the form to update your password. Please note that this new password will be active for both your myUnisa and myLife services.

Important information
During peak periods, it may take approximately 30 minutes for the new password to activate on the myLife service. If you are still experiencing problems after resetting your password, please send an e-mail to [email protected] for assistance.
